With the FC Barcelona presidential elections just around the corner, there has been a lot of chatter surrounding the possibility of club legend Lionel Messi getting involved in the process in some manner.

The speculation suggested that the former Barça captain would potentially throw his support behind one of the candidates contesting the election against Joan Laporta.

Naturally, if Messi were to publicly support one of the candidates, he would attract a large number of votes.

Messi not getting involved

However, as per the latest update from MARCA, at present, Messi has no intention of getting involved in the process. His plan is to remain completely on the sidelines and not back anyone.

Messi currently has other priorities. First, he is playing in the United States league with Inter Miami. Above all, he is preparing for the next FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the country where he is now playing.

It is a crucial tournament for the player, as Argentina will be defending the title, and it is very likely to be his final World Cup.

With this context, Messi does not want to become involved in Barcelona’s elections.

Future return remains on the agenda

At the same time, Messi intends to return to the club in the future, as he has stated in recent interviews.

This is his long-term plan, although it is not yet clear in what capacity he will return. His decision to come back is firm, but it will not happen during this electoral process.

For now, despite his current poor relationship with Laporta, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner does not want to influence the electoral process by supporting any candidate.

He will wait for it to conclude and, after that and once the World Cup is over, he will begin to think about his return to Barcelona.
