The Teesside outfit have had a decent season so far, with Boro currently one place and one point outside the play-off places, so they will believe promotion is a real possibility.

However, it’s been a difficult week for Boro, as they picked up just one point from two games against Burnley and Leeds.

Michael Carrick looks ahead to Middlesbrough vs Millwall

Coming up against two of the best sides in the Championship was a good test for Boro, and whilst they failed to win, they could take encouragement from the performances.

But, now attention has turned to Millwall, with the Lions playing their last game under club favourite Neil Harris, who has decided to leave.

And, speaking to the club’s media, Carrick made it clear that his side must not underestimate the Londoners.

Millwall are a really tough team to play against so we have to be fully ready for that. A lot of the games we’ve played have been really tight, with one goal either way making the difference. They make it really tough and they’re a good team.”

So, Carrick’s message here is spot on. Boro must not underestimate Millwall, and if they aren’t at their best, there’s every chance they will suffer another defeat.

But, despite the loss at Elland Road last time out, there were positives to take, as Middlesbrough matched Leeds for large parts, but they failed to take their chances in the second half that could’ve put them ahead.

That’s been and gone now, and, as Carrick outlines, it’s just about taking things one game at a time, with Boro
