Michael Keane will miss Everton’s meeting with Leeds United later this month after receiving a three-match suspension for a red card in the 1-1 draw with Wolves.
He was dismissed in the 83rd minute after a VAR review found he pulled Tolu Arokodare’s hair during an aerial challenge, and the Premier League said in a statement the offence constituted violent conduct.
Red card bans apply across domestic competitions, so the 32-year-old will miss the FA Cup tie against Sunderland and Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Leeds.
Leeds travel to Derby County in the FA Cup this weekend, then host Fulham in nine days, before the Merseyside trip, which could offer more points if the suspension is not overturned on appeal.
Leeds had been three unbeaten on the road before Wednesday’s late defeat at Newcastle, while Everton have failed to win any of their last three home fixtures.
