Former West Ham United striker Michail Antonio says he never considered retirement following his horrific car crash last year – and insists he still has a lot left to give.
Antonio was involved in a serious car crash last December which left him unable to play for the remainder of the last campaign.
He has since left West Ham, but says he is still looking to further his playing career and is in talks with clubs over his next move.
“The future for me, obviously still playing,” he told Hayters TV.
“I’ve always said that I want to keep going and keep pushing myself.
“I’ve got a lot left in me and obviously now I’ve got more to prove to come back from where I have and how quickly I’ve done it. I’m kind of pushing myself to go again.
“I’m speaking to some clubs right now so you’ll be seeing me again.
“I played for the (West Ham) U21s the other day, 45 minutes, managed to get two goals in that.
“I’ve got something to prove. So this year, I’m more hungry now, so I’m going to keep going, keep pushing myself and then see where it takes me.”
Antonio might not have decided on his next club yet, but he has landed a job as part of the punditry team for TNT Sports next season.
Asked if he ever thought his playing career was finished following the crash, he said: “No, I didn’t, to be honest.
“I spoke to the doctors and once they said to me I’ll naturally recover, this gave me a time frame and I was just like, yeah, as soon as you said that I can play, I knew I would play.
“So as soon as the doctor spoke to me, I was happy.”
