According to L'Équipe, Michel Platini’s public defamation complaint, filed in late November at the Paris judicial court with civil-party status, was registered on 19 December.

The former UEFA president, 70, was cleared in the 2 million Swiss francs affair in July 2022, then on appeal in March 2025. It became final after Swiss prosecutors dropped a last appeal to the Federal Tribunal in Lausanne in late August.

The case centred on a 2 million Swiss franc payment in early 2011, agreed by then FIFA president Sepp Blatter, for advisory work done between 1998 and 2002. The sum was about 1.8m euros at the time.

Platini’s French lawyers, Basile Ader and Najwa El Haïté, filed the complaint on 28 November, targeting four people, including former FIFA figures, who had spoken publicly. Their filing cited Article 65-2 of the 1881 press law, which reopens the defamation window for three months after a final acquittal. In August, Swiss counsel Dominic Nellen said the defence would examine legal options after the criminal case failed.

On that date, the senior investigating judge sent the order confirming the filing to the lawyers. Admissibility hinges on a consignation order, ahead of any introductory indictment and the appointment of an investigating judge who could then open a judicial inquiry. Ader declined to comment when contacted about the registration.
