Bukayo Saka and William Saliba aren’t yet on the verge of reaching the end of their contracts with Arsenal, with deals lasting until 2027, but the Gunners are still keen to agree extensions with the duo as soon as possible.

With both players just 23 years old, the hope will be that they still have much of the next decade at the peak of their powers. Ideally, those years would be spent in north London.

Addressing Saka and Saliba’s contract situations in his press conference on Tuesday, Mikel Arteta said there’s no doubting Arsenal’s intentions, it’s just a matter of finding the right time for talks.

“I think those communications or decisions are made over time so we understand when we have to act,” Arteta said.

“Players and agents are fully aware what the intentions of the club are. And in the right moment we have these discussions.

“I’m sure we’re very aware of the contractual situation of every player so they will be dealing with those kind of matters.”

As for whether contract negotiations have actually started, Arteta said only: “Not yes and not no.”

Saka’s current priority will be returning to full fitness, with the winger still possibly another month away from making his on-field comeback.

Before his injury, the England winger had scored nine goals and assisted 13 in 24 appearances for Arsenal this season.

As for Saliba, the French defender has played 35 times this campaign as he continues to be a key member of the current team.
