Adriano Galliani has decided to leave Monza after the Berlusconi family sold the team to the investment fund Beckett Layne Ventures and was conspicuously spotted on the stands during Sunday’s clash between Milan and Napoli, fueling the buzz about his return to the Rossoneri.

According to Calciomercato, the veteran exec shook hands with owner Gerry Cardinale in Sardinia during the summer. The change of hands of the Brianzoli was in the works but not finalized yet at the time. His comeback, which is strongly backed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will come to fruition eventually.

However, it’ll take time. Milan must find the right role for Galliani after recapturing some stability during the summer following a tumultuous year by hiring Massimiliano Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare. CEO Giorgio Furlani and president Paolo Scaroni will stay in their current roles.

The returning official would have to assume a different position, for instance, head of the technical area or vice-president. The details will be sorted at a later date. He has just become a free agent.

Galliani first started working for Milan back in 1986, holding various apical roles, especially CEO. He contributed to 29 trophies during his 31 years at the club. He was simultaneously the president of the League for four years from 2002 to 2006. The exec departed when the outfit was sold to Chinese entrepreneur Li Yonghong in 2017.

The 81-year-old returned to football the following season as former Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi took over Monza, the team he had first worked for. He shepherded them toward their return to prominence, as they were in Serie C at the time. He’s serving his second term as a senator for the right-wing coalition.
