Milan are keeping tabs on Alex Meret and could pounce next summer if he decides to ask to leave Napoli. Antonio Conte preferred fielding Vanja Milinkovic-Savic more than anticipated. The recent injury suffered by his competitor will only strengthen his grip on the starting job.

According to Radio Kiss Kiss (via OneFootball), the Rossoneri are scouring the market for a new goalkeeper. They don’t think Mike Maignan will extend his contract.

Meret would be an experienced option for Milan. They have mostly been attached to up-and-comers so far, for instance, Parma’s Zion Suzuki, Cagliari’s Elia Caprile, Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu, and Toulouse’s Guillaume Restes.

The Napoli shot-stopper renewed his contract not too long ago, signing a two-year deal after a few seasonal ones. He was aware of the team’s plan to bring in another established player to duel with him, but perhaps he expected to remain at the top of the depth chart. Instead, Milinkovic-Savic started more than he did. He’ll be sidelined for four to six weeks because of a metatarsal fracture in his right foot.

Our Take on Milan and Meret

The Rossoneri have been linked to some very interesting players who are ready for the jump to a big team. Still, Massimiliano Allegri surely wouldn’t mind bringing in a veteran who might not be stellar but has already handled that kind of pressure and proved to be good enough. He wasn’t bothered by the competition and from being constantly on the hot seat in previous years, but it’d be understandable if he wanted to be an unquestioned starter after contributing to the Scudetto.
