Milan match-winner Matteo Gabbia after derby winner: “Always on Fonseca’s side” | OneFootball

Milan defender Matteo Gabbia has revealed that the players are on Paulo Fonseca’s side, after their dramatic and thrilling 2-1 win over Inter in the derby.

The Rossoneri came into the game with loads of pressure on their heads and there was talk that Fonseca could get the sack, if they hadn’t picked up a win or put in a good performance. But Inter looked tired in the game and despite Federico Dimarco’s goal, they couldn’t get a win.

Christian Pulisic scored early and Gabbia scored late in the game to grab a very unlikely derby win, keeping Fonseca in the job.

Gabbia spoke to DAZN about the result and stated that the club’s players are fully behind the manager.

He said, as relayed by TMW: “I’m very happy for us and for the fans, it was a difficult time where things could not have happened. This victory gives us so much energy, I am happy for the team and for these people who are wonderful.

“It must be the norm for us, even if a game like this is so much stuff, we have to take the field like tonight. Giving everything we can make the fans proud and at the end of the year we see where we are.”

He further said: “We always at Fonseca’s side, the victory in the derby gives us so energy.”

The 4-4-2 setup was a change from what Fonseca had in the first few games and that is big credit to him, as he changed at the right time.
