A season of frustration and disappointment for Milan fans hit a new low on Saturday evening as Torino beat the profligate Rossoneri 2-1 in Serie A. Another dismal result further derailed Sergio Conceicao’s hopes of steering the San Siro giants to a sought-after Champions League finish.

Bereft of confidence after a frustrating Champions League exit against Feyenoord, Milan needed a win to boost their morale and regain a foothold in Serie A’s intense top-four race. However, a miscommunication between Mike Maignan and Malick Thiaw saw the Rossoneri concede a comic opening goal in the fifth minute.

Despite securing control of possession and forcing Torino to defend with numbers, Milan couldn’t find a way past Vanja Milinkovic-Savic in the first half. Christian Pulisic squandered the best chance as the Serbian goalkeeper thwarted his attempt from the spot after Rafael Leao drew a penalty.

Milan leveled the score in the 74th minute through Tijjani Reijnders, who netted his eighth league goal this season. However, their celebration was short-lived as Torino regained the lead only two minutes later, with Giidas Gineitis seizing the visitors’ lapse in concentration to make it 2-1.

Milan (4-2-3-1)

Mike Maignan – 6

After his blunder helped Feyenoord win the first leg, another inconceivable mistake from the French goalkeeper set Milan on the back foot early this evening. But he pulled off two miraculous saves late in the first half.

Alejandro Gimenez – 6.5

Swooped in for Kyle Walker, the young gun offered a spirited display in Turin, tormenting Torino’s backline with bursting runs down the flank and tricky footwork.

Malick Thiaw – 6

Though his name got on the board for an own goal, the German was unlucky to stand in Maignan’s way. However, he recovered nicely and fared outstandingly for the rest of the game.

Strahinja Pavlovic – 7

Dominant in aerial duels and clinical in his tackles, the Serbian center-back delivered another remarkable performance, shutting down Antonio Sanabria and Nikola Vlasic.

Theo Hernandez – 6.5

After Tuesday’s horror show at the San Siro, Theo barely put his foot wrong tonight and was particularly impressive at the back.

Yunus Musah – 5.5

Conceicao had to take him off at halftime following an erratic first half marred by a bizarre yellow card and inexplicable blunders in possession.

Tijjani Reijnders – 7

The Dutchman has become inevitable! After nearly scoring midway through the second half, he hammered the ball home from close range to draw Milan level.

Rafael Leao – 5.5

Despite drawing a first-half penalty, the Portuguese winger made too many mistakes before being subbed off by Conceicao at the start of the second half.

Joao Felix – 6

Like Leao, the Chelsea loanee was prone to giving up possession cheaply, though his playmaking skills often connected the dots in the Milan attack and even hit the post with a thunderous first-time effort.

Christian Pulisic – 5

The USMNT forward tried to be a difference-maker on the right wing but often struggled to find the final touch, with the missed penalty summing up a troubled evening for the Milan star.

Santiago Gimenez – 5

It was a frustrating evening for the Mexican center-forward. He didn’t get the service he needed to continue his free-scoring start to life in Serie A.
