Milan will soon have to choose whether to keep Kyle Walker, who has been serviceable since joining on loan from Manchester City, but they’ll have to invest a little to retain him permanently. The Rossoneri are reflecting in particular about his wages, Relevo’s Matteo Moretto informs (via Tribuna).
The Englishman is scheduled to earn €4.5M annually until 2027 should he stay at San Siro. He’d be about the third or fourth most expensive player in the squad. A few meaningful renewals are currently pending. Instead, the option to buy amounts to €5M.
Milan have put the decision on Walker on hold at the moment. They have until June 30th to make the call. The veteran has starred in 11 games since January, missing just a couple due to a minor thigh problem.
The Rossoneri have appreciated his leadership, but will weigh whether he’s worth the costs given his age. Manchester City would eventually be owed a percentage of the fee should he depart in the future.
“In football, when you have certain opportunities, you have to take them. The experience of another league, culture, and playing for a club like this. There are certain teams you can’t say no to. It was the right time for me to leave Manchester City. I wanted to try something different. I didn’t want to regret it at the end of my career. Pep Guardiola stood up and gave a really nice speech after I said goodbye. I’m currently on loan. Both sides have to agree at the end of the season. I have to consider that I could also go back. That chapter isn’t completely closed yet. We’ll see what happens.”
