Milan urged to rename part of San Siro in honour of legendary Baresi | OneFootball

Tributes continue to flood in for the late, great Franco Baresi, who has died at the age of 66, and there are growing calls for Milan to re-name part of San Siro or the club’s training ground in honour of their iconic former captain.

Milan discussing Baresi tribute plans

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan have several plans in place to honour the legendary Baresi and are still discussing several other options to give the Rossoneri icon the send-off that he deserves.

A funeral will take place on Tuesday and will be attended by countless Rossoneri representatives, including current owner Gerry Cardinale, President Paolo Scaroni, CEO Massimo Calvelli and all the employees from Casa Milan. A long list of Baresi’s former teammates will also be in attendance.

Santiago Gimenez and Christian Pulisic will also be there, unlike the rest of the first-team squad, who are currently away in Australia on a pre-season tour. It has not yet been confirmed whether or not Zlatan Ibrahimovic will attend.

Meanwhile, there have been growing calls from supporters on social media for Milan to re-name the club’s training ground or part of the stadium in honour of Baresi.

This is a decision that is still being evaluated by the club’s management, but one that has not yet been ruled out. If these plans were to go ahead, there would not be a massively complicated bureaucratic process involved, and ground sharers Inter are not expected to present any opposition to the idea.

There have also been suggestions that Milan could re-name their facility in Vismara after Baresi. Vismara is where the Rossoneri youth teams train and play and is also where Baresi spent the entirety of his own youth career.
