Milan have endured an ulterior blow ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Napoli, as Matteo Gabbia won’t be available and might be set for a spell on the sidelines. The defender re-injured his calf, which already cost him one fixture in the recent past, La Gazzetta dello Sport relayed.

The center-back sat out the Udinese tilt due to a contusion. The problem is muscular and more serious in this case. He’ll likely be sidelined versus Monza and Real Madrid too. The Rossoneri will conclude the gauntlet against Cagliari before the next break.

Gabbia will take more tests shortly to evaluate the full extent of the problem. He’s been their most consistent defender at the start of the season and recently earned his first Italy call-up. He has taken over the starting job after the first three matches.

Milan won’t have Tijjani Reijnders and Theo Hernandez against Napoli due to disqualification. Tammy Abraham is slated to stay out due to a lingering shoulder injury. Luka Jovic is unavailable due to a nagging groin issue. Instead, Davide Calabria is probable after missing multiple games due to a thigh problem. He hasn’t played in over a month due to consecutive injuries.

Our Take on Milan and Gabbia

He’s been dependable and their top performer in the back, but they would have been in a tougher spot hadn’t they rotated lately. Malick Thiaw and Strahinja Pavlovic were fine in their most recent showing after a few fixtures on the bench. It remains to be seen whether pairing one of them with Fikayo Tomori would work well, though. They had some issues with that at the beginning of the season and might not even try.
