Million-euro clause: 16-year-old midfielder signs pro deal with Corinthians

This week, midfielder Kauã Dias (born in 2009) – 16 years old – signed his first professional contract with Corinthians. The new contract was published in the CBF’s Daily Information Bulletin (BID) last Tuesday, October 28. Piracicaba, as he is known, celebrated the occasion on social media.

“PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT Very happy to continue this journey with this shirt! I can only thank God for everything! It’s a dream come true, I always dreamed of this moment. I thank Corinthians for believing in me, my family who has always been by my side for everything! According to information from Meu Timão and confirmed by Central do Timão, the domestic release clause was set at R$ 12 million and, in turn, the international clause is set at 50 million euros, about R$ 311 million at the current exchange rate. It is worth noting that contracts for athletes under 18 years old can only last a maximum of three years.

In accordance with Brazilian law – the General Sports Law – the penalties for the domestic market can only be up to 2,000 times the player’s monthly salary. Kauã Dias has been at Corinthians since he was 13 and can play in all midfield positions. This season, he played all five matches for the U-17s as a defensive midfielder.

Corinthians, after the Kauê Furquim case, continues to review the contracts of its main prospects in order to protect itself from the interest of domestic and, eventually, international clubs. Currently, the department’s main figures are: Carlos Alberto Auricchio (general director), known as Nenê do Posto, and Erasmo Darmiani, the new executive of the youth categories after the departure of Alex Brasil.
