Òscar Mingueza’s future looks far from Balaídos, with the Celta de Vigo defender out of contract on 30 June. He has closed the door on renewing and is free to talk to other clubs since the start of January, with offers mounting.

According to Sport, Juventus have stepped up talks with Celta and want to bring the Catalan in this window, with a sizeable bid on the table. Celta are understood to be pointing to a 20 million release clause, with Barcelona entitled to 50% of any fee, and Thursday could be key to whether an agreement is found.

Inside the club, sporting director Marco Garcés views Mingueza as essential for Claudio Giráldez’s plans and believes a mid-season sale would harm ambitions. Celta are in good league form, with European places within reach, and in the Europa League they are competing to make the top 24.

Mingueza is settled in Vigo and remains fully committed to the squad. He has built strong ties in the dressing room.

The Premier League appeals to him. Aston Villa explored a move during Monchi’s tenure as sporting director, and that plan has been revived since Roberto Olabe arrived at Villa Park, with Unai Emery also an admirer.
