Mirassol were bold but an early Flaco López strike settled a defeat at Palmeiras in the sixth round of the Brasileirão, despite several encouraging individual displays.
According to Globo.com, goalkeeper Walter had little to do before López’s low effort from range found the corner, and he could not be blamed.
Igor Formiga shone before the break, creating three openings at 0-0, then he was pushed by Carlos Miguel in the second half. João Victor was steady and looked to progress play, while Willian Machado shadowed López and was caught between markers for the goal.
Reinaldo threaded an early pass to Formiga but, booked, was replaced at half-time. Victor Luis carried more threat and aided a late surge, with Aldo Filho supporting on the right. Neto Moura took a tactical yellow and was also withdrawn at the interval.
Gabriel Pires drove at the hosts and overcooked a promising move involving debutant Tiquinho Soares and Victor Luis. Shaylon struggled to influence and was taken off, Alesson’s chance to level from a Tiquinho pass was blocked, and Negueba’s crosses lacked bite.
André Luis pressed and tackled but lost key duels. Nathan Fogaça produced Mirassol’s best second-half attempt from distance after a Tiquinho pass, saved by Carlos Miguel. With Rafael Guanaes suspended, assistant Ivan Baitello started Carlos Eduardo and used André Luis centrally, changed approach at the break, yet the equaliser never came.
