Former Romania head coach Mircea Lucescu, 80, has been moved to intensive care in Bucharest after a deterioration in his condition following serious cardiac problems in recent days.
He has been in hospital in Bucharest since 29 March and suffered a heart attack on Friday. On Sunday morning, the hospital said his condition had deteriorated and he was transferred to intensive care.
On Saturday evening he again experienced major cardiac arrhythmias, quickly managed by the cardiology emergency team. The arrhythmias worsened on Sunday despite treatment.
He has been hospitalised several times since the start of the year because of illness. His duties as Romania head coach were interrupted at the end of March, the day after defeat to Türkiye in the World Cup play-off semi-finals.
On Sunday, several close relatives visited the university hospital in Bucharest to be at his side.
