Kristjan Asllani impressed in midfield for Inter Milan against Empoli, but Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski weren’t up to par.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They argue that it was a mixed bag in terms of Inter’s squad depth.

Inter did not line up with a “first-choice” starting eleven against Empoli in Serie A yesterday.

A combination of injuries and squad rotation meant that there were some “squad players” who had the chance to prove their worth.

And in the view of Tuttosport, the signs were inconsistent.

Kristjan Asllani Impresses Vs Empoli – Taremi & Zielinski Struggle

Young midfielder Kristjan Asllani started his third straight match for Inter with Hakan Calhanoglu out injured.

The Albanian had his ups and downs against Venezia and Bologna.

But against his former side Empoli, Asllani proved that he was up to the task.

It was a mature performance from Asllani, who showed for the ball, found the necessary passes, and directed traffic in midfield all match long.

On the other hand, Tuttosport argue, former Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski had a less convincing display.

The 30-year-old’s technical quality was evident in certain moments. But he seemed to be on the fringes of the match, and never really offered anything to unlock a stubborn Empoli defense.

Similarly, striker Mehdi Taremi also struggled.

The Iranian had his chance to impress. But it was a performance lacking in any sort of real threat in the Empoli penalty area or in behind the Empoli defense.
