Whilst Hugo Ekitiké (23) has begun life at Anfield in scintillating form, Mohamed Salah (33) is yet to hit his usual heights for Liverpool this season.
Ekitiké joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt in a €95m move over the summer. The Frenchman, who struggled at Paris Saint-Germain, hasn’t had such problems since making the move to Merseyside, netting three goals in his first four games, including two goals in his first three Premier League fixtures.
Salah, however, the leader of Liverpool’s attack in recent seasons, has netted just once, but beyond that, he has been less influential in these opening weeks of the season. The Egypt international has now admitted, in an interview with Men in Blazers, that he is still trying to forge a connection with the Frenchman.
“So far, I didn’t figure the connections out yet,” said Salah. “Like with Darwin (Nunez) or Lucho (Luis Diaz) or the guys that used to play in front, or Diogo (Jota). I know where to start with Diogo or Darwin. I know where to find them. I knew their game very well, but with Hugo, he’s still new,” added the winger.
He continued, “Sometimes, I need the ball in the field. Sometimes we need [it] in space. We are trying to figure that out, through the training sessions or like the videos. The manager shows us. So I will figure it out soon because it’s also going to help my game to grow as well.”
Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League table. They return to action following the international break with a game against Burnley, before welcoming Atletico Madrid at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League.
