Salah is to leave Liverpool at the end of the season

Mohamed Salah has taken to social media and issued a statement regarding his imminent Liverpool exit.

It was announced by Liverpool on Tuesday evening that Salah will be leaving the club, after nine successful years, at the end of the season.

Salah joined the Reds from Roma in the summer of 2017 and has gone on to cement himself as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, scoring 255 goals in 435 appearances to date.

This season has been somewhat of a struggle for the 33-year-old and his decision to close a remarkable chapter at Anfield comes as a surprise given he signed a two-year contract extension less than 12 months ago.

Salah will officially bid farewell following Liverpool’s final game of the season, whether that be the Premier League clash at home to Brentford on May 24 or a Champions League final in Budapest, Hungary on May 30.

Taking to Instagram to confirm his planned departure, Salah thanked the Liverpool supporters for standing with him during the difficult times.

Salah said: “Hello everyone, unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”

“I never imagined how deeply this club, this city and the people would become part of my life.

“Liverpool is not just a football club. It is a passion, a history, a spirit. I can’t explain in words.

“We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in my life. I want to thank everyone who has been part of this club throughout my time here.”

“I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me support through the best times of my career and you stood by me in my toughest times. I will never forget.”

“Leaving is never easy. I will always be one of you and this club will always be home to me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
