Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has reaffirmed his commitment to the club by agreeing to a new contract until 2033, the Times reports.
The Blues forked out a British record £115 million to sign Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, and he has since become one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
Caicedo’s contract renewal comes at a time of unrest at Chelsea, with the supporters clamouring for clarity on the club’s direction.
Four years on since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Consortium bought the club, Chelsea are yet to show any signs of being ready to challenge for major honours.
Enzo Maresca is the only manager to have brought silverware to the club, having won the Club World Cup and the Europa Conference League last season.
However, his shock departure earlier in January derailed the club’s progress and sparked outrage from a fan base already sceptical of the new owners.
By pledging his allegiance to Chelsea, Caicedo has given the club a vote of confidence and joins captain Reece James in committing to a new long-term contract with improved wages.
The Ecuadorian midfielder has been one of the most consistent players at the club and has now been rewarded for his exceptional performances.
His renewal also ends speculation about his long-term future.
Caicedo has been clear about his desire to become a club legend and reaffirmed that commitment when rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid surfaced.
Levi Colwill is expected to follow with a contract extension of his own, potentially keeping him at the club well into the next decade.
The 23-year-old is viewed as the future of Chelsea’s backline even as he recovers from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The club are already eyeing another raid on Brighton, having identified Jan Paul van Hecke as a long-term partner for Colwill in the heart of the defence.
