Leicester City are expected to offload Wout Faes this summer, and a return to Monaco could follow. L’Equipe reports that Monaco want to renegotiate his option and are unlikely to pay the €7.5m fee.

The report adds Monaco are tempted to keep Faes and Simon Adingra, whose contributions have pleased the hierarchy, but falling TV rights and uncertainty over next season’s European competition weigh on their spending. By comparison, Sunderland are due €17m for Adingra.

Monaco could instead pursue another loan for Faes, who has one year left on his City contract, or seek a lower permanent price.

Faes joined from Reims in 2022 for a reported £15m. Since then he has been promoted to the Premier League once, but relegated from it twice.

He made 14 league appearances for Monaco, starting 13, and played every minute of two Champions League ties against Paris Saint-Germain. His final outing was a 5-4 defeat to Strasbourg, where he was given a 3/10 rating.

There appears to be no prospect of the 28-year-old featuring for City in League One, with uncertainty surrounding much of the squad, including all four centre backs.
