Frenchman is second WSL boss fired this week

Jocelyn Precheur has been relieved of his duties as manager of Women’s Super League debutants London City Lionesses.

The newly promoted Lionesses, owned by women’s sport tycoon Michele Kang, invested heavily in the summer and recent results have not matched the club’s lofty ambitions.

It appears a rather harsh decision at surface level, though, with the club sitting sixth in the league with five wins in their opening 11 matches.

A 1-0 league defeat by Leicester City on Sunday was the final straw.

Precheur becomes the second WSL manager to have been sacked this week, after relegation-threatened West Ham parted ways with Rehanne Skinner on Thursday.

The Frenchman moved from Paris Saint-Germain to London City in 2024 with the side still competing in the second division.

He promptly earned promotion, but will not be in the dugout to watch the Lionesses complete their debut top-flight campaign.

London City did not taste victory in the WSL until their third match, where they beat Everton at Goodison Park after losing to Arsenal and Manchester United by a combined score of 9-2 in their opening two fixtures.

Defeats to title contenders Man City and Chelsea were in contrast with unconvincing wins over minnows Liverpool, West Ham, and Crystal Palace, who were relegated to the WSL2 last season.

It seemed the much-changed side was finally clicking, though, when Precheur led the Lionesses to impressive back-to-back victories over Tottenham and Aston Villa.

But subsequent defeats to Brighton and Leicester brought the curtain down on his stint with the club.
