Achraf Hakimi
Injured, Achraf Hakimi is doubtful for the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco. However, far from being worried, Walid Regragui is determined to do everything to have the Parisian in his squad for the opening match of the continental tournament.
Last Tuesday, Achraf Hakimi picked up an injury against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The Moroccan suffered a severe sprain to his left ankle, which will sideline him for an estimated 6 to 8 weeks. This setback casts Hakimi's participation in the Africa Cup of Nations—set to take place in his home country from December 21 to January 18—into doubt.
However, this Friday, the Atlas Lions' head coach, Walid Regragui, made a strong statement regarding his captain: "Let me be clear in my communication: we will do everything to ensure Achraf Hakimi is 100% fit against Comoros (the opening match of AFCON, editor's note). And even if he can't be at 100%, he'll still be there. Of course he'll be present—he's our best player and our leader. If there's one player who can make a quick comeback, it's Achraf. We have one of the best medical staffs in the world, just like PSG. Our doctor traveled to Paris yesterday. Achraf will be with us for AFCON, whether on the pitch or in the dressing room. He will only play if he's at 100%."
He went on to praise PSG's handling of the situation: "We have a good relationship with PSG. We've reached an agreement for the Olympic Games, we've allowed him to rest... He's under contract with PSG and they're managing him well."
