Morocco’s football federation will appeal CAF sanctions imposed after the AFCON final incidents, arguing the measures are not proportionate to the severity and danger of the events. The federation said in a statement on Tuesday.

The end of the final saw some Senegal players leave the pitch, encouraged by head coach Pape Thiaw, after a series of contentious incidents. They later returned at Sadio Mané’s request and won in extra time with a goal from Pape Thiaw.

In late January, CAF fined the Senegalese federation 615,000 dollars, handed Pape Thiaw a five-match suspension and a fine, and banned Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaïla Sarr for two matches.

Morocco’s FA received a 200,000 dollar fine for the conduct of ball boys who took the Senegal goalkeeper’s towel.

A further 100,000 dollars was imposed for what was deemed inappropriate conduct by players and staff, accused of entering the VAR review area and obstructing the referee’s work.

There were also 15,000 dollars for lasers used by supporters, a two-match suspension, one firm, for Achraf Hakimi, and three for Ismael Saïbari.
