The discussion about Jamal Musiala and the national team has recently gathered pace at FC Bayern after he suffered another setback against Leverkusen. Now the decision has been made in consultation with national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Musiala will not be in the DFB squad for the upcoming international matches against Switzerland (27 March) and Ghana (30 March). The attacking player is sitting out for the time being to avoid taking any risks. The decision was made in close consultation between all parties involved.
The 22-year-old is still struggling with problems on his operated left foot and has recently suffered a number of setbacks. After gradually increasing his playing time in recent weeks following his serious ankle injury, he had to be substituted against Leverkusen. Although it was only a fatigue reaction in the affected ankle, Munich do not want to take any risks. Playing under competitive conditions is currently out of the question.

There had already been indications beforehand that the situation would be handled sensitively. FC Bayern did not want to rush into anything and clearly wanted to build up the playmaker carefully. Coach Vincent Kompany had already announced the exchange with the national coach: „I will definitely talk to Julian on the phone. Let’s see what comes out of it.“
At the same time, he emphasized the common line: „I think we have the same interests. We all want to get Jamal Musiala back in top shape.“ The Belgian also made it clear with regard to the further course of events: „We just have to manage it sensibly now so that we can get Jamal back to his best level.“
It is currently unclear when Musiala will be able to play for FC Bayern again. He is not in the squad for Munich’s Champions League second leg against Bergamo in the round of 16.
