Referee Maurizio Mariani made several unforgivable mistakes during Saturday’s Serie A clash between Napoli and Inter Milan.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, Mariani’s assistant, Daniele Bindoni, faltered as well.
Napoli halted Inter’s seven-game winning streak in all competitions this weekend.
Indeed, Antonio Conte’s side claimed a controversial 3-1 win at home on their way to returning to the top of the table.
However, Maurizio Mariani came under fire after the game, with several decisions heavily favoring the home side.

For starters, Mariani failed to sanction Billy Gilmour for an over-zealous tackle on Hakan Calhanoglu.
Only a few minutes later, the Scottish midfielder committed another cynical foul on Denzel Dumfries, earning a yellow card.
Yet, had Mariani sanctioned him the first time, it would’ve been a red.
Then, the 43-year-old was right to allow the play to continue after Giovanni Di Lorenzo fell in Inter’s box.
Unfortunately for the Nerazzurri, he changed his mind after receiving a call from the VAR booth, ultimately pointing to the spot.
Meanwhile, his assistant, Bindoni, failed to spot Alessandro Buongiorno’s clear handball despite being only a few meters away from the incident.
Indeed, Mariani again had to check it on the side-pitch monitor before awarding a penalty to Cristian Chivu’s side.
