Napoli Could Revisit Everton, Tottenham Target Who PSG Are Urged to Pursue in January | OneFootball

TalkSPORT reported that Kobbie Mainoo wanted to leave Manchester United before the transfer window closed if the right offer came in. That immediately brought PSG into the conversation, with one expert suggesting the French club should keep a close watch on the situation.

On a previous episode of the Ensemble PSG Podcast, Football Transfers chief editor Robin Bairner said Mainoo, who didn’t get his summer departure, is a name that PSG should be ready to act on in the future.

“I think maybe one to look at might be Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United,” Bairner said. “I think he’d be an interesting one to look at, just off the top of my head, because he’s clearly an immensely talented player, but he doesn’t really fit into Ruben Amorim’s system.

“Amorim wants players who are all about intensity, whereas there’s a feeling that Mainoo is lacking a little bit of mobility. I think he could potentially fit into a team like PSG where you’ve got that high tariff on technical ability and being able to play in possession.”

ESPN reports (h/t TEAMtalk) that Mainoo was set to join Napoli on a loan deal, eager to link up with his former teammate Scott McTominay and new signing Kevin De Bruyne in a midfield trio for the Serie A champions.

However, the report mentions that the transfer could be revisited in the winter window if Mainoo doesn’t see more regular minutes before then. His omission from Thomas Tuchel’s latest squad has highlighted why a move may be necessary to revive his career.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Napoli are leading the chase, aiming to pair Mainoo with Scott McTominay in Serie A. Roma, Marseille, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Everton have all made inquiries as well.

It remains unclear if Mainoo will become a realistic target for PSG. Still, interest from major European clubs is strong, with Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan noting that Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid are keeping a close eye on the youngster.
