Napoli want a striker this summer and have tied up a deal for Lorenzo Lucca. However, the Partenopei would rather sign Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, Napoli have decided to proceed in the direction of the Liverpool centre-forward and offered €42-43 million.

The Partenopei ‘insist on paying early’ to beat out the competition. Liverpool reportedly would be satisfied with even €50 million plus bonuses.

Nunez has underwhelmed since his move to Anfield three years ago for €75 million plus €25 million in add-ons.

Despite his poor returns in Merseyside, Nunez still has interest from the Saudi Pro League and Europe.

Besides Napoli, Atletico Madrid were also interested in signing the Uruguayan international striker this summer.

Napoli believe that Nunez, who earns £140k per week, would take them further and are ready to hold off on the deal to sign Lucca as they continue to negotiate with Liverpool.

Liverpool have spent big money to sign Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds are also looking to add Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

However, the club has not made any move for a new striker. It is a position that is crying out for reinforcement even without the potential Nunez exit looming.

The Premier League champions could use a lethal centre-forward as they bid to retain their crown and dominate on other fronts.

Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak is reportedly a target for Liverpool, but the Magpies can demand an obscene sum for the Swedish marksman.

There are also rumours that the Reds are interested in Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike.

Die Adler have set a €100 million price tag for the former Paris Saint-Germain man and will not budge.

Liverpool still have enough time in the transfer window to sort out the centre-forward position.

However, European powerhouses like Manchester United, Arsenal and Atletico are also looking for strikers. The Reds need to move quickly.
