Napoli to Keep Talent, Pursue Cheap Boca Juniors Winger | OneFootball

Antonio Vergara may have drawn some interest earlier in the summer, but Napoli will take him off the market by extending his contract, and, in the meantime, they are going after Boca Junior’s Ezequiel Zeballos, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The talent will ink an extension until 2031, with an option for three further years. He’ll get a raise that fits his new status. His agent, Mario Giuffredi, spoke after a meeting with the brass.

Despite retaining Vergara, Napoli could still add on the wings and are targeting Zeballos. His contract runs out in January. The Partenopei have already come to terms with him. They’ll try to acquire him this summer by paying a €9/10M fee. It remains to be seen whether Boca Juniors will accept it. He’s been a regular for the past 3 years and has totaled 16 goals and 16 assists in 140 appearances.

The Azzurri have been seeking a backup right-back for ages. They lodged their latest inquiry for Costantino Favasuli, who’s also represented by Giuffredi. He blossomed at Catanzaro after leaving Fiorentina.

We’ll see whether they’ll wait for an exit before securing the latter, but he’s a low-risk gamble. The former surely helps with the lists and is good enough to be a rotational piece, but they have quite the logjam, and Massimiliano Allegri isn’t the most trusting when it comes to youngsters. They seem to be building toward a 4-3-3, which could lead to some tough decisions concerning some of their most established players.
