Matteo Politano’s lightning-fast return from injury has earned him a glowing report from La Gazzetta dello Sport.
He had initially sustained a gluteal injury during the last win against Genoa, yet a week later, it seems that Antonio Conte no longer has to replace one of his untouchables.
Politano seems ready to rejoin the group and therefore be able to return to the starting line away against Torino on Saturday. Of course, he’ll have to provide guarantees ahead of Champions League action and the clash with Inter. However, the pain seems to have disappeared, and Politano is already ready to resume his tireless work on the flank.
The 32-year-old clearly has a certain reliability and longevity to his play. He has played the fourth most minutes so far this season, behind McTominay, Anguissa, and Lobotka, whom he will soon overtake due to injury. Plus, above all, his offensive work is a valued asset, having shot the most (16, tied with McTominay and Anguissa). In terms of chances created, he’s second only to Kevin De Bruyne.
Despite not scoring yet this term, Politano has always provided this quality, leading Napoli to the Scudetto with plenty of assists. He provided the Scudetto-winning pass for ‘McT’ against Cagliari, and he also provided the first assist of the year in Reggio Emilia, again for the Scot.
