During Real Madrid’s last league game against Villarreal, the club suffered a massive scare when Kylian Mbappe was seen struggling.
The Frenchman, who has been by far the club’s best player this season, appeared to limp slightly during the latter stages of the game. He was substituted in the 82nd minute, as he made way for Rodrygo.
Mbappe was looking far from perfect, with visible pain in his right ankle. This led to fears that the forward might have picked up another injury, heading into the second international break of the season.
Interestingly, though, Mbappe remained a part of the French squad that will take on Azerbaijan and Iceland in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers this week.
And now, French national team coach Didier Deschamps has offered an update on the fitness of Mbappe, implying that his knock was nothing more than a niggle.
“Kylian Mbappe injured? There are always injuries before or after the list. He is here, he had a small issue but nothing serious, otherwise he wouldn’t be here today,” he said (h/t L’Equipe).

It must be remembered that Mbappe has skipped French national team duty in the past, even during his time at Paris Saint-Germain.
This time around, though, Mbappe looks determined to play for Les Bleus, with coach Deschamps ready to back him at every turn.
The former AS Monaco starlet has already shown immense commitment for the French national team ever since joining Real Madrid.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether Mbappe will feature in France’s upcoming game against Azerbaijan on Friday.
As the captain of the team, the onus will be on the Frenchman to provide the goods going forward and help Les Bleus move a step closer to securing qualification for next year’s FIFA World Cup.
