Madureira goalkeeper Neguete saved Puma Rodríguez’s penalty and Brenner’s rebound to secure a 0-0 draw with Vasco. According to Globo.com, the 35-year-old was named man of the match.

Born Willian and known as Neguete, he has represented 18 clubs across Brazil and does not see this as his career’s twilight. His most prominent spell came in Espírito Santo with Rio Branco-ES and Real Noroeste, lifting three straight state titles. In the 2024 final’s second game he saved two in the shootout, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 triumph he remembers as rare.

Life outside the elite has been unstable, with wages once delayed six or seven months and family stepping in to help. He fears shortened state calendars leave many friends unemployed by early February. Madureira sit second in Group B and need one draw to reach the knockouts.
