Before the points deduction, Lennon’s side trailed Accies by two points, with Hamilton holding seventh place in the Scottish Championship after winning two on the bounce.
Subsequently, Hamilton have now dropped to 20 points from their previous tally of 35, while Dunfermline climb to seventh with 33 points – putting them five clear of the relegation play-off zone and 13 above the bottom of the table.
Lennon surprisingly took charge at East End Park just shy of a month ago. Soon after his appointment, he wasted no time in bringing former Celtic hero Victor Wanyama to the club. In his Pars debut against Scott Brown’s Ayr United, the Kenyan was red carded for deliberately handling the ball to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity.
So far, Neil Lennon has won two matches and lost two games. His defeats have come at the hands of Ayr United and Hamilton. Meanwhile, his two victories which have pushed the Pars up the table came versus Livingston and Queens Park.
With three encounters remaining, a victory tomorrow at East End Park against promotion chasers Partick Thistle would all but secure their safety in the Championship.
Queens Park who have lost nine on the trot and are without a manager alongside Airdrieonians who linger five points behind Dunfermline look set to battle it out to avoid that relegation playoff position.
Dunfermline go up against Airdrieonians in their penultimate league game of the season next weekend which could see Lennon’s men officially stay in the division following a turbulent campaign on and off the pitch.
It remains to be seen whether Lennon will be at the club long-term or whether he eyes another job in Scotland or abroad. One thing is for certain though, he looks to have completed the job he was set out to do when appointed last month.
