Wingback Denzel Dumfries is getting closer and closer to signing a new contract with Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the contract will run until the end of June 2027, and be worth €4 million net per season plus add-ons.

At the moment, Dumfries is out of contract with Inter at the end of next June.

The Dutchman is currently on the same contract that he signed when he joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2021. He signed a four-year deal when arrived from PSV.

Given the current situation, Inter have made it clear that they want to extend Dumfries’s deal.

The Nerazzurri have no intention of losing the Dutchman on a free transfer in twelve months’ time. That is what happened with defender Milan Skriniar, who joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

Therefore, Inter’s stance has been that they want to extend Dumfries’s contract. Or else cash in on the 28-year-old this summer while they have the chance.

At the moment, Dumfries is at the Euros with the Netherlands.

However, once the former PSV wingback returns from the tournament, Inter want to wrap up contract negotiations swiftly.

And according to the Gazzetta, everything looks to be moving towards an agreement.

Dumfries and his representatives had initially demanded a wage increase to around €5.5 million net per season.

However, Inter consider this to be far too high. They have not gone higher than €4 million net per season in their offer.

That is the same amount that wingback Federico Dimarco is currently on.

And because Dumfries wants to stay at Inter, the Gazzetta report, he will accept this offer from the club.

The addition of some add-ons should be decisive. Dumfries will sign a new deal that adds two more years onto his contract and increases his wages.

And the Dutchman should do so before the start of next season.
