Manuel Neuer’s contract ends in the summer, but it is not yet clear whether he will end his career or extend it. Jonas Urbig is seen as a potential successor and has now commented on this very issue
Over the course of the current season, Urbig has once again shown that he can be relied upon. Whenever he has had to or was allowed to stand in for Manuel Neuer, he has performed well. Even when he slipped up, coach Vincent Kompany placed his trust in him, which he immediately repaid
There is a broad consensus at the club that Urbig has the potential to be Neuer’s successor, but that of course depends on a number of factors. The pressure also increases as soon as Urbig is clearly communicated as the number one
In an interview with Sky, Jonas Urbig has now spoken about a potentially great and long career at FC Bayern. „Whether I am the one – that’s not my decision. What I can influence is to bring mindset and quality and then turn that into something, because FC Bayern is a very big club,“ said the young goalkeeper

So far, you can definitely tell that he can handle pressure and that he is able to play the style that is difficult for goalkeepers at FC Bayern. He is very good in the build-up, very precise and seems resistant to pressing, and he is strong on the line anyway
In addition, the goalkeeper says he is already constantly preparing himself to be able to and have to play. „I have the feeling that I’ve done very well so far. I’ve always been mentally prepared to be needed and to be there so that I can deliver on the pitch. I think I’ve done well so far,“ Urbig continued. A decision on Neuer is likely to be made in the coming weeks.
