Last week, Barcelona announced Karim Adeyemi as their second signing of the 2026 summer transfer window, with the 24-year-old forward arriving from Borussia Dortmund for a fee in the region of €29 million after he entered the final year of his contract at the Bundesliga giants.
Within days of identifying Adeyemi as a leading target, Barcelona moved to reach an agreement with Dortmund for his transfer. For the Germany international, it was a no-brainer to make the move, and as per MD, he revealed the role that Hansi Flick played in him landing at the Spotify Camp Nou.
“He just called me and asked if I wanted to go. I told him of course, because it’s the biggest club in the world and these opportunities only come once. He didn’t have to convince me. I’ve trusted him for a long time, and I have a lot of respect for him. I hope he sees things in me that I can bring to the team on the pitch. He knows me very well from the national team and we are very close.”
Adeyemi also gave supporters some insight into the traits that he will bring to the Barcelona squad from the 2026-27 season onwards.
“I have speed, of course, but I also have other things to contribute to the game: speed, I have one-on-one, I can play on the outside, as a centre-forward… I think I’m versatile and I think that’s what makes me something different, possibly.”
Adeyemi is anticipating a successful 2026-27 season at Barcelona, which he hopes to round off with his first Champions League crown.
“I have the feeling that it will be a very good season, hopefully with many titles. Great things await us, we want to achieve everything and we can, that’s what we train for and we give everything every day. My dream is to win the Champions League. I had it almost (with Dortmund in 2024), unfortunately we lost but it’s my dream. That’s what I work for every day.”
While Adeyemi has been signed as a versatile attacking option, it’s expected that he will primarily compete with Lamine Yamal on the right wing. Rather than being daunted at the prospect of trying to oust one of the best players in the world, he is excited by the challenge ahead.
