Barcelona’s interest in Julian Alvarez remains active despite the difficulties surrounding a potential deal, with fresh developments suggesting the story is far from over.
Reports from El Chiringuito TV indicate that communication channels between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid remain open, while further movement is expected once the 2026 World Cup reaches its conclusion.
The Argentine striker continues to be viewed as one of Barcelona’s priority targets, even though Atletico Madrid have repeatedly maintained that they do not intend to sell one of their biggest stars.
Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez has not cooled down, with indirect contacts reportedly continuing behind the scenes.

The Barcelona transfer news surrounding Alvarez has gathered pace in recent months, especially after it came to light that the player would welcome a move to Camp Nou.
Alvarez remains tied to Atletico Madrid until 2030 and has a staggering €500 million release clause in his contract, making negotiations particularly complicated.
Even so, Barcelona are believed to have already explored the framework of a long-term agreement with the Argentine international.
According to the latest updates, serious discussions are expected after the World Cup, when all parties involved will have greater clarity regarding their plans for the new season.
At present, Barcelona’s financial situation also remains a major factor.
Although the club has regained compliance with La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule, president Joan Laporta has consistently stressed that Barcelona will not jeopardise their financial stability in pursuit of signings.

Atletico Madrid publicly continue to insist that Alvarez is not available for transfer, but recent events appear to have altered the atmosphere surrounding the player.
When Barcelona initially explored the possibility of signing Alvarez, Atletico reacted dismissively, even using social media to underline their position. Since then, circumstances have evolved.
The striker’s desire to seek a new challenge has shifted the conversation, leading to speculation that Atletico could eventually be forced to listen to offers if the right proposal arrives.
However, Barcelona have no plans to approach the figures previously discussed in the market. Atletico Madrid are believed to value Alvarez at around €150 million, an amount that Barcelona currently consider excessive.
The Spanish champions are unlikely to match that valuation, particularly given their commitment to maintaining financial discipline despite recent improvements in their economic outlook.
