Maycon Cardozo celebrates his debut in Vincent Kompany’s squad for FC Bayern’s home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, making him the first player from the World Squad to take his place on the bench of the record champions

Maycon Cardozo is a relatively unknown name in FC Bayern’s matchday squad on Friday evening. The young Brazilian, who comes from Bayern’s „World Squad“ project, recently signed a development contract with the record champions – but it does not yet include a professional contract. If Cardozo manages to secure a professional contract, he would be the first player from the „World Squad“ to make his way directly into the FC Bayern first team

Since 2019, FC Bayern has been offering young talents from all over the world the chance to showcase their skills on the campus in Munich and recommend themselves for higher tasks. The programme combines intensive training camps with international tournaments and allows the players not only to receive sporting support, but also to grow into the structures of a top European club. The aim is to discover hidden talents at an early stage and pave the way for them to play professional soccer. Maycon could now be the first to hit the ground running

Campus boss „excited about his further development“

Jochen Sauer, director of youth development at FC Bayern, has been keeping a close eye on Maycon’s development for some time. „Maycon came to the Campus around a year ago via our international youth programs for the U17s. After strong performances in the U19s during the first half of the season, he was brought up to our amateurs during the winter break. He was one of the most active players in the offense in the wins against Unterhaching and Hankofen,“ praises Sauer.

We are delighted that he is taking his next steps with us and are looking forward to his further development,“ said Sauer with regard to the future of the 17-year-old Brazilian.
