The hanging game surrounding Dayot Upamecano is forcing FC Bayern to think. Should the Frenchman actually leave in the summer, the record champions would have to react in the center of defence – and apparently already have a prominent name on their radar
Although Upamecano has had a concrete and financially very extensive offer to extend his contract for weeks, a decision is still being awaited at Säbener Straße. The patience of those responsible is being increasingly tested, especially as the squad planning for the coming season has long been underway. It is therefore logical that FC Bayern is looking at possible alternatives at the same time
According to information from transfer insider Ekrem Konur, one name has come to the fore who has already made a lasting impression in the Bundesliga: Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutchman once played his way to the fore at VfL Wolfsburg before venturing into the Premier League. At Spurs, the 25-year-old is an absolute regular and is regarded as one of the most reliable central defenders on the island. Even at Wolfsburg, van de Ven impressed with his consistency, pace and strength in tackles – qualities that are also highly valued at FC Bayern

However, a potential transfer would come at a price. According to Konur, Tottenham are currently asking for a transfer fee of around 100 million pounds, which would be the equivalent of more than 115 million euros. A sum that would be a clear house number even for FC Bayern. Especially as Manchester United, Liverpool FC and Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the Dutch international alongside Munich
Van de Ven is said to have recently rejected a contract extension at Tottenham, as he would like to play for a club that regularly competes for titles. In addition, his current market value is significantly below the rumoured transfer fee. According to Transfermarkt, the defender is currently valued at around €65 million – a figure that is more likely to correspond to the realistic market price
However, Upamecano’s personnel remains crucial. If the Frenchman does extend his contract, Bayern will have no urgent need for action in the center of defence. If, on the other hand, the 27-year-old leaves the club, selling him could free up a large part of the necessary budget. Van de Ven would then not only be a suitable candidate in sporting terms, but also a candidate with league experience who could immediately maintain the level in defence.
