Ipswich Town have had an eye on Patrick Bamford's situation at Bramall Lane and now Sheffield United and Chris Wilder have made their final decision.

Bamford can leave Sheffield United after today's game against Mansfield Town. The ex-Leeds United star has scored five goals in 10 games for the Blades since his arrival, however.

That has come from 488 minutes of football, including starting and scoring a brace in a 5-3 defeat to Wrexham recently. Wilder swooped for the experienced centre-forward after Frank Lampard and Coventry had Bamford interest.

In recent days, it has been revealed that Ipswich Town have had a look at Bamford. His situation has remained unresolved at Bramall Lane until now, with the Blades finally making a decision regarding his future at the club.

Sheffield United were said to be close to a new Bamford deal until the end of the season recently. The Star are now reporting that the saga is nearing a conclusion, with the two parties close to an agreement to extend Bamford’s time at Bramall Lane.

James Shield posted cryptically last night, but the latest from Danny Hall is that an agreement with Sheffield United is close, with "Wilder understood to be keen to tie down Bamford to an 18-month deal."

There was talk that they initially wanted a deal until the end of the season amid the Ipswich talk, but Bamford's longer-term future has been decided upon. It will tie him down until the summer of 2027, which is just a few months before his 34th birthday.

Patrick Bamford's career stats

Bamford is more than just a striker who scores and helps to connect play with assists, with Sheffield United fans already seeing the best of his ability to pin the opposition and link play as a centre-forward.

Bamford is 6'1" and a tireless worker, with the ability to lead the line with his all-round play as a striker. Wilder may have a number of options for the striker position, but not many combine so many different attributes to keep the team up the pitch.

Bamford has never been the most clinical but his eye for goal has been evident in spells during his career, including the purple patch he is currently in. After only starting one league game under Daniel Farke last term, he failed to score a single goal for Leeds.

Wilder is now unlocking the best of the 32-year-old, with careful management of his starts and minutes thus far. That could be the key to keeping Bamford fit and healthy all season, and in getting Sheffield United ever closer to the play-off places.
