The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 has been rescheduled and given new dates by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The tournament was originally supposed to start in March 2026, but it has now been moved to July 25th. The tournament will run until August 16th and will still be hosted by Morocco. WAFCON 2026 was postponed just weeks before the original kick-off date.
CAF decided to change the dates after discussions with partners such as FIFA. The aim of the change is to make sure the tournament runs as smoothly as possible and is successful for players, teams and fans.
The 2026 tournament will be one of the biggest WAFCON competitions so far. For the first time, 16 teams will take part, instead of the usual 12. This change gives more countries the chance to compete and help women’s football grow across Africa.
Another important part of WAFCON is it will help decide which African teams qualify for the 2027 World Cup. The top four teams will automatically qualify, while two other teams will have another chance to qualify through play off matches.
Even though the competition has been delayed, excitement is still building as supporters across Africa look forward to another exciting WAFCON tournament.
