Newcastle United have reportedly beaten Barcelona and Real Madrid to signing of Antonio Cordero from Malaga.
The 18-year-old winger is one of the most highly-rated prospects in Spanish football following an impressive debut campaign in the Segunda División.
So far this season Cordero has started 18 matches and come off the bench another 13 times in the second tier, registering five goals and five assists. He’s also won 14 international caps at youth level for Spain.
According to FBref, the Cadiz native takes 3.03 shots per 90, with exactly a third of those being on target, and attempts 5.6 crosses per 90 from 1605 minutes. Two of his goals have come from penalty kicks.
Newcastle have ‘completed the deal’ to sign Cordero from Malaga with the move set to be announced, claims transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid were both ‘keen’ on signing the teenager, but he chose to join the Premier League outfit instead.
Daily Mail football journalist Craig Hope reports that Newcastle plan on loaning Cordero out next season as he is viewed as a ‘signing below first-team level, for now’. He may feature in pre-season ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
