Newcastle United are looking at RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, according to the Daily Mail.

The Magpies do not plan to sell Isak but keep monitoring Sesko, who has been tipped to become one of the best in the world.

Sesko is a target for many European giants, having shown glimpses of his immense potential at RB Salzburg and Leipzig.

The 21-year-old scored a superb goal last weekend as Leipzig held Bayern Munich to an epic 3-3 draw. He has bagged 13 goals and five assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances this term.

Sesko is not yet the most prolific striker, but he will explode soon, and several clubs want to have the mercurial striker in their ranks when he does.

The Slovenian centre-forward reportedly has a release clause north of €80 million, although suitors can sign him without triggering it if they use creative payment structures.

Sesko is on the transfer shortlist of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Staying in Germany makes sense for Sesko

The best move for Sesko is no move at all. The 21-year-old is developing steadily at Leipzig, gaining valuable minutes in a competitive league and showing clear signs of improvement.

Sesko has acknowledged he is a work in progress. “I can do many things better,” he told Sky Germany.

“I have a lot to learn and have to improve little things. Then, I will score significantly more goals.”

A premature transfer could stall his momentum or bury him on a bench. At Leipzig, he is trusted and learning how to lead the line.

The time for a big move will come, but staying put for another season could be the smartest decision he makes on his journey to becoming one of Europe’s elite strikers.
