Newcastle United believe Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha is out of their price range after initial enquiries.

Eddie Howe had hoped to bring the Germany international to St James’ Park as part of a midfield rebuild.

Nmecha has impressed during Germany’s World Cup campaign, scoring and assisting in the group stage as Julian Nagelsmann’s side progressed to the knockout rounds.

Manchester United and Liverpool have also been linked with the 25-year-old, who spent time in the academy system at Manchester City before returning to Germany.

The Chronicle are reporting that Newcastle have made enquiries about his availability this summer, but the current asking price is out of their reach as things stand.

Nmecha is valued at €100m (£87m) at the Westfalenstadion, with a release clause of £73.5m not active until summer 2027.

Newcastle are monitoring midfielders amid interest in Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. Spurs have had two bids turned down for Tonali, while Arsenal have approached Guimaraes over a potential transfer. AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara is also on Newcastle’s radar.
