Bruno Guimarães’ future at Newcastle United is the story dominating headlines this summer. 

Newcastle regard the midfielder as an indispensable leader and are unwilling to sanction a sale in this transfer window.

But their position has seemingly weakened after the 28-year-old informed the club of his wish to leave St James’ Park and join Arsenal. 

Latest reports claim Newcastle are aiming to secure a fee around £85 million for their captain. 

No club-to-club talks have taken place except a phone call from the Magpies asking Arsenal about their stance. 

Guimaraes was part of the Brazil squad at the World Cup 2026, starting every match before they were eliminated by Norway in the round of 16.  

The 28-year-old has been Newcastle’s most valuable player in recent years. 

He has made 195 appearances across all competitions, bagging 31 goals and 32 assists. 

The experienced midfielder played an instrumental role in their League Cup triumph in 2024-25, which ended the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy. 

Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. 

Losing Guimaraes in the same transfer window would be a monumental blow for them. 

However, the Brazilian has his heart set on joining Arsenal and keeping him against his will would also be a risk.
