Newcastle United are determined to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa to strengthen their attack. They initially made an offer of £25 million, but it was immediately rejected. The Magpies then made a new offer, which included a £35 million advance payment and £5 million in add-ons. According to a report in The Athletic, Brentford also rejected this £40 million package. The club’s stance are clear that they will not let their key player go so easily.

Wissa came to Brentford from Lorient in 2021 and gradually cemented his place in the team. Last season, the DR Congo centre-forward registered 20 goals and five assists in 39 matches, which is proof of his impressive performance. Although his contract will expire next year, the Bees have the option to extend it for another year.

That is why they are not in such a hurry to sell the player. Brentford have already lost names like Thomas Frank, Bryan Mbuemo and Christian Norgaard, so they do not want to weaken further, but meanwhile, Wissa’s attitude is different. He missed pre-season and did not even participate in the opening league match, which indicates that the 28-year-old wants to move towards a change.

Is it a big blow for Newcastle United?

This failure can be costly for Newcastle United. Callum Wilson has already left the club, and Alexander Isak is also preparing to leave. Eddie Howe is in urgent need of a reliable striker, and at such a time, getting Wissa has become a priority for him, but Brentford’s refusal has dealt a blow to the Magpies’ plans.

This negative response will clearly affect their transfer strategy, as there is not much time left for the window to close. If they do not succeed in this deal, the options will be very limited.

Wissa himself is eager to play at St James’ Park, yet the Bees’ strictness have made the situation complicated. This situation shows that there is a huge gap between Newcastle’s ambitions and reality. In our opinion, this failure could set them back in their early-season momentum, and that is why this setback is so serious for them at the moment.
