With Barcelona planning to bring in a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, the name of Newcastle United mainstay Sandro Tonali has been linked as a possible target.

The Italian international has become a key part of Eddie Howe’s team in England and his performances have attracted the interest of Barça among other elite teams across Europe.

Furthermore, reports earlier this month suggested that Tonali is being seen as a possible replacement for captain Frenkie de Jong in case the Dutchman’s contract renewal is not agreed upon and he is sold.

Tonali not looking for an exit

However, according to the latest update from The Telegraph, Tonali has no interest in leaving Newcastle United in the summer and intends to stay put at St. James’ Park.

The former AC Milan midfielder played a pivotal role in helping the Magpies win the Carabao Cup this season, ending a 56-year-old trophy drought at the club.

One of the best players for Newcastle this season, Tonali wants to stay and repay the faith shown by the Premier League club in him during his 10-month ban from football last year for breaking gambling rules.

Apart from Barça, Tonali is also on the radars of clubs like Juventus and Manchester City, among others.

But the Italian international has shrugged off the reports of interest and has decided that he intends to stay at Newcastle United long term.

The Magpies, for their part, also have no plans to sell Tonali and are convinced that the midfield mainstay will remain at the club well beyond the ongoing season.

So, any interest that Barcelona may had in the former AC Milan man is unlikely to materialise into something important come summer.
