English news outlet ChronicleLive reports that anger has spread quickly across Tyneside after Newcastle United lost to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby, and the mood stayed bitter long after full-time as fans kept replaying a poor display at the Stadium of Light.
As the noise grew, many supporters aimed their frustration at Eddie Howe because his team failed to match their rivals’ performance, lost grip in key moments, and offered little pushback once pressure set in.
Meanwhile, this defeat added to a season that already feels flat, since Newcastle now sit 12th in the Premier League and keep struggling to reach the levels Newcastle showed last year. Even so, solid runs in the Champions League and the Carabao Cup soften the view slightly, while doubts continue over whether Howe has taken progress as far as it can go.

However, the owners see things differently. PIF continue to back the manager, because his record still counts after he secured two Champions League qualifications and lifted the Carabao Cup.
Still, worry hangs around. The Magpies spent close to £250m on Malick Thiaw, Anthony Elanga, and Yoane Wissa, yet performances slipped, so Howe now carries a clear task to steady the side soon.
Newcastle should continue to back Eddie Howe, because his work over recent seasons still counts even as this campaign slips off track. Although results have dipped and performances have lost bite, he put together a side that once played with belief, control, and purpose, and people around the club still remember that clearly. At the same time, Howe cannot slow down or rely on past wins, since pressure now follows every call he makes and every team he picks.
Moreover, PIF speak openly about big ambitions, but ambition needs patience as well as money, so changing the manager during a rough spell could do more harm than good. Still, Howe must react fast, because fans can see a growing gap between what gets promised and what shows up on the pitch, even with a strong Champions League run.
For that reason, the Magpies should back him for now, while asking for visible improvement. If he tightens his ideas, brings back the sharpness, and lifts league form, loyalty will feel justified, but for now, there are doubts.
