The nominations for Premier League player of the week have been unveiled.

The eight put forward include one Newcastle United star who played a prominent part in the victory over Manchester City.

Barnes starred in Newcastle United’s impressive win over Manchester City, netting twice in the second half, as Eddie Howe’s side earned a sixth successive home victory in all competitions.

The midfielder missed a couple of huge chances in the first half, but was far more clinical in the second, netting from the edge of the area and then applying a close-range finish for the decisive goal.

He left the field to a standing ovation as Newcastle fans chanted “Barnes will tear you apart again.”
